ALTO GÁLLEGO
Routes
A step away from the Hotel Tierra de Biescas
In the Tena Valley, dozens of routes are waiting for you to enjoy the natural challenges of the Pyrenees on a MTB.
We recommend 6 of the most popular ones, which are perfectly signposted and can be started from the Hotel or very close to Biescas.
R21 – TOUR OF THE OROSES. Easy itinerary on paved roads and tracks in optimal condition. Accessible to families with children. It runs through the villages of Orós Alto and Orós Bajo. You can take this opportunity to go for a swim in the small natural pools that you will find along the route.
Difficulty: Low / 14 km / Gradient: 95 m / 2 hours.
R17 – OLIVÁN. The route starts at La Conchada car park, towards Orós Alto, when you take the green way on your right by the River Gállego. Then, go up the River Sía on the left and make a right to Orós Bajo. From there, a path leads to Oliván. After descending along a track to the village bridge, you come back to Biescas along the right bank of the Gállego.
Difficulty: Medium. Accessible all year round / 16.6 km / Gradient: 135 m / 2 hours.
R35 – SMALL MOUNTAIN (IBÓN) OF PIEDRAFITA. From the village of Piedrafita, go up on the track to the surroundings of the Ibón. Then, up and down along 2 km on a path with varied terrain, until you reach the village of Búbal, where you will go on a road for 1 km leading to the old road, which will take you back to Piedrafita. Difficulty: High / 15.4 km / Gradient: 635 m / 2 hours.
R8 – ESCUER CASTLE. The route begins with a climb up the Arás ravine towards Yosa del Sobremonte, with spectacular views. From there, the route runs through a beech forest up to the descent leading to the Escuer Castle. Going through paths of pines and oaks, we arrive at Escuer Alto and Arguisal. After descending and passing Escuer Nuevo, we cross the N-260 to return to Biescas on the right bank of the river Gállego.
Difficulty: High / 23.5 km / Gradient: 750 m / 5 hours.
R37 – PASS OF BIESCAS RAVINE. Initial ascent of 16 km by road and track to the highest point in the valley of the pass ravine. Very technical descent on a path with a very steep initial slope through a thick beech forest. Once you have reached the A-136, cross the road to return to Biescas on both a track and a path with ups and downs. On the way, you will discover the dolmen of Santa Elena and the Witches’ House. The route ends after going along a road with endless bends. Difficulty: very high / 29 km / Gradient: 1.002 m / 3 hours.
DH1 – DESCENTS DH. Route adapted for DH practice, starting at Biescas on the road that leads to Aso de Sobremonte. An entertaining route, ideal for learning through technical areas, steady slopes, cants and jumps. This route was included in the Aragon DH Championship in 2013.
Difficulty: Medium-Low / 2 km / Gradient: 350 m.
